HOW TO PROVE YOUR EDUCATION WITHOUT A CERTIFICATE

Schooling is not about getting certificates. No. It is about acquiring education – knowledge.

It is a pity to think of the focus of many school children and youths in school these days. Some of them keep their entire time building certificate, and ignore those special moments when they ought to have learnt their greatest lessons and developed effective skills and capabilities. I guess they hardly think or realize that certificate will leave them and stay at home – only their skills and proficiency will be going around with them.

Paper certificate is nothing less than a mere proof that you attended a school; it is never a proof of your skills and capacities. You will not be going around with your certificate. Once you use it to open a door of a job opportunity, you will be left with your skills and abilities. This is why I often advise students that they build their certificate and make it attractive, but not at the detriment of their skills development.

Though many organizations run after people with many academic qualifications, the desire of those organizations is not actually academic qualifications which are proved by paper certificates. More than any paper certificate from whatever school is performance and practical ability, that is, education.

Therefore, the greatest proof of your education is your ability to prove what you have in your head. I know of people who have never been to any formal school, but are working with big organizations as big bosses – though not without any higher demand. And there are number of people with many academic qualifications that owners of businesses cannot put in any position of higher demand because they are not qualified practically for such positions: they know what to say, but can’t do it. And some don’t even know what to say and do.

So to prove your education without certificate is to know how to prove yourself practically. Practical ability, performance and practical knowledge are the final proofs of any certificate. And without that, paper certificate might be useless. This is another reason there are number of certificated youths without job in our streets. If you are still going to school, don’t be one of them.

Think of it: what would you do, if your certificate gets lost and there is no means of getting another copy of it? You need to ask for opportunity to prove yourself by being put in a place where you can showcase your education.

HOW TO DETOXIFY THE YOUNG MINDS FROM INDOCTRINATION

By Wole Soyinka for thehighereducation.com A few years ago, I had reached the stage of despair over the deterioration of the university system in my own country, Nigeria, under successive regimes of both civilian and military orders. Even the basic, campus social life had broken down, a condition that I tried to summarise in the title of a public lecture that went: “Descent of barbarism and end of the collegial”. Educational standards had plummeted so low that the word “illiteracy” had become current within – not only outside – the ivory towers, leading Unesco to classify Nigeria as one of the nine countries that together accounted for 70 per cent of the globe’s illiterate population. We do not need to be reminded that primary and secondary education form the base material for the intellectual quality of intakes into the tertiary institution. When deterioration in those two tiers is compounded by the fact that those tertiaries indulged in any excuse to foment strikes by facul...

THE REAL MEANING OF SCHOOL

Issue of school in regards to its meaning is one of the modern topic amongst educationists. While school is described in a layman term just as a place of learning; it is professionally described as an organized environment for formal education – which means education that follows certain processes. And the features of school, as it is being often mentioned, include: school authority and staff, classrooms, laboratories and libraries, textbooks and lesson notes, students, tables and chairs, various buildings and offices, ink or chalk boards and other materials of instruction. But school, in the real sense, is more than all that have been mentioned as the major features; my description of school is simply a place of getting additional knowledge to one's own natural knowledge. Therefore, the real features of a school is everything and anything that contributes to the growth of one's knowledge, causes the expansion of one's mind, increases one's intelligence quotient, ...

THE UNNOTICED DEEDS OF JESUS CHRIST THAT MADE HIM GREAT: Part 3

As Christians, we are not allowed to live a life below greatness, even in our simplicity and normal lifestyle. All about us should hold people ransom to the kingdom of God. And that's why I have taken our time to look into the life of our "Lord Jesus Christ who lived a kind of lifestyle that the world considers to be exceptional, but which is normal to us who are of the kingdom of the Father of Light." In this series, we have been looking into those little little things that gathered together to make our Lord Jesus Christ great. Read Part 1 or Part 2 of the series. In this Part, we will yet look at another simple step that leads to Jesus Christ's greatness. Our Bible verse for this part is in the book of Philippians 2:5-11 that says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servan...
